Arkouda House | Hotel in Big Bear Lake, California

“Excellent location, short walk to Village. Dog friendly & large room. Appreciated French press. Missed garbage can & dishes.”

“Positives: Newly refurbished. Clean room. Location easy walk to village center. Staff (specifically, Evan) was very responsive and helpful. Reasonably priced. Negatives: Some basic /common features were missing. Eg, no power outlet next to the bed so use of a CPAP wouldn't be possible. (When I contacted Evan, he promptly went out and bought an extension cord for my use.) To turn on/off the lamps attached to the wall next to the bed, one has to get out of bed to the opposite side of the room where the switch is. No USB charging outlets. We had a room with the bed in a loft a full floor above the main room. It's a lot of stairs to walk down and up to go to the bathroom, get something to drink, or move a suitcase if you wanted next to the bed. There was a French press coffee maker in the room (a nice feature), but no coffee or creamer. Note that these comments are specific to the room we stayed in. Even though there are a number of "negatives" in my comments, it is on the whole a nice place to stay. Older people and/or those with back issues or any mobility issues should avoid the rooms with a loft.”

“This place just reopened (under new management/ownership?), and with that comes a few things to be expected, they admitted they're not fully open just yet, and in fact, the room that hotels.com allowed me to book was not supposed to be an active listing, and Arkouda removed it a few weeks ago because the AC wasn't ready yet! (hotels.com, get your S together!) That aside, the staff on site was exceptional, he'll have to forgive me for not remembering names, which I'm bad at, but he was very accommodating given hotel.com's mistake, and we looked at the room, which even without AC wasn't too stuffy, and it has a pretty large fan which helped a little. It being the beginning of August, temps were pretty high. There are other little things, but those are mostly ME things since I'm very picky, but they get a free pass because A) the room wasn't supposed to be listed yet, B) they're literally in the middle of a "soft opening", and C) staff made up for everything. We will probably stay here again on our next trip to Big Bear.”

“Spacious room, no dog fee & plenty of shaded areas to chill, short walk to village. Fantastic spot. Yes, they're still finishing up a few tiings, but for the price point, you can't beat it. Owner was very responsive as well. Already booked our next stay.”

“This place has been open for two weeks, renovation is still ongoing. We really enjoyed the loft room with bunk beds and a fully air conditioned space in 90 degree weather! It's walking distance to the village, park and slopes. We visit Big Bear regularly throughout the year, we will definitely be back, and fully recommend it. Dogs stay for free!”

“The manager Jenica took such good care of us. She brought us things we needed and even offered us a cabin when our original room didn’t have enough beds. We really enjoyed our time at Arkouda Cabins. Free pet stay was a real plus!!!”

“Staff was incredible; very responsive. The property is in the process of getting renovated; it’s going to be amazing when finished. Bathroom and bedding was spotless! Our Room needed drip coffee pot and mini fridge.”

“This quaint little hidden gem will be the place to be after all renovations are complaint. We stayed just after their second weekend open. I can tell once everything is completed I would rate it all excellent!!! The staff was incredible & welcomed us back with a free nites stay to acknowledge a few of the renovation issues. Well done & great location!!! We will be back & not just for the free nite. Highly recommend!!!”
