Ballygown Cottage | House in Cork, County Cork

Positive: Fantastic property, excellent facilities and everything was spotless.

Negative: N/A

Positive: The property is in a rural location, on the main road which some other reviewers thought was noisy but it did not bother us. Well equipped kitchen and small comfortable sitting room. Very much a comfy family home vibe rather than a chic designer house. Ample parking. Couple of small issues sorted out by the owner following a call.

Negative: The house is a little tricky to find but only because map apps bring you up a little short of the property. Oven/hob takes a while to heat up but we weren't in a rush. Some might not like the shower/bathroom being off the kitchen, but again not an issue.

Positive: We liked the location, it was a quiet area but just 8 minutes from Mallow.

Negative: The house was cold, we tried to turn the heating on but couldn't. We phoned & text the owner & his friend who is suppose to be in hand. We're still waiting for them to reply, so if anything goes wrong you are on your own. As a cancer patient I need warmth. I ended up sleeping under 2 duvets with my socks on. I wouldn't book this property again because there is no back up.

Positive: Good bedrooms, good kitchen

Negative: Location, nothing around (pub) in walking distance.

Positive: We self catered so we provided our own breakfast. We loved the fact that the kitchen was well equipped with a family sized table that we could all sit around. We loved the open space of the garden at the back of the property that we could drive into and also walk through with our little grandson each morning and evening.

Negative: I guess, the only draw back was not the cottage itself, which we could not fault, but the noise of the early morning traffic, which could not be helped, as it is a main road. However, we got used to it and managed to always go back to sleep!

Positive: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming cottage. It had everything we needed to make it a real home from home. Although we didn’t cook while we were there, the kitchen has everything you need to have cooked anything you wanted. The bedrooms, while basic, were clean, warm and comfortable and the terrace off the main bedroom is a lovely place to sit with a coffee. The only bathroom is on the ground floor (although there is an en-suite loo in the main bedroom on the first floor). The shower was hot and powerful and the spa bath was a real treat after a long day of driving. We had a little trouble finding the place but I think that was due to a road closure at the time but thanks to a lovely neighbour in an adjacent road, we got there in the end. The location is beautiful and restful and the only sounds you hear are the birds. Mallow and Fermoy are within easy driving distance if you want a bit of town life or shopping. Kildorrery is a few kilometres away and if you fancy a drink with friendly bar staff, I can recommend Ollie’s Bar. The beautiful church is also worth a visit. We were in Ireland to visit family in Mitchelstown which is about a 15 minute drive from the cottage. If you want great food at good prices I recommend The Hunters at the top of the town. Fantastic food and lovely staff. We ate there every day and it was always busy which says a lot. Compared to other rentals and B&Bs we looked at, Ballygown cottage was very competitively priced and great value for money.

Negative: I can honestly say there was nothing disappointing about Ballygown cottage.

Positive: I was communicating with the owner by watsapp and he was very helpful! This was a home away from home! And it had everything we needed. Will definitely stay again.

Negative: no fault at all

Positive: We loved the privacy and view. Beds were a little uncomfortable but everyone is different

Negative: Really hard to pull out cause you can't see either way
