Our only issue was that we never figured out how to get the shower to work. (Couldn't find a knob to switch from main faucet to shower head.) Breakfast was minimal.
Many issues with the room, property and location. First off, the overpriced room was in dire need of refurbishment. The chair had multiple, large water-stains, the bathroom floor huge areas of stain. The old bed was diabolically old, both low and soft: A marshmellow has more firmament. Next, the television was incredibly complicated to navigate and there was no guide or instructions. The woman from the front desk tried to get it to work but after 15 minutes, we gave up. Also, the complimentary breakfast didn't begin until 7 AM -- and this was a weekday -- and I needed to be back on the road by then. Given the property is near main east-west corridors with people traveling long distances, breakfast should begin at 6AM. The property's adjoining restaurant didn't begin service until 7:30AM. Dining options in Kalona? Few. A Mexican one, a sub shop and a rather pretentious "Italian" one with unimaginative Iowa-configured Italian dishes that were overpriced. They didn't dare list prices on the Menu tab on their website. Lastly, I found the Christian proverb painted on the wall over the bed objectionable I have nothing against religion, only the proselytizing. If the owners insist, they need to be inclusive with passages from the Koran, from Buddhist and Hindu texts and the like. We live in a global village so please respect those guests who wish to find a good night's sleep without your personal religious agenda.
