Negative:
I was unfortunately let down by the operating policies of the hotel, which significantly detracted from the stay and made it difficult to appreciate the art and architecture.
Policy Issues and Pre-Authorisation:
I booked through Booking.com and was not made aware of the $200 pre-authorisation fee prior to arrival. Upon check-in, I was charged the full room fee, with the $200 pre-authorisation still pending on my card, rather than the pre-authorisation being offset or deducted from the final bill. This essentially ties up $200 of my funds and is an outdated and inconvenient policy, especially when not clearly communicated upfront on the booking platform.
Request for Passport Information:
The check-in process was further complicated by a request for my full passport details. When I inquired about the specific and necessary purpose for collecting this sensitive information, I did not receive a clear or satisfactory explanation. In a digital age, guests should be given a transparent and justifiable reason for why such personal documents are being recorded.
While the art and architecture of the hotel may be commendable, the overall guest experience was completely overshadowed and let down by these frustrating and non-transparent operating policies. A hotel of this calibre should have modern, clear, and guest-friendly payment and data collection procedures.

Positive:
Staff was friendly
Rooms are spacious
Location is excellent
Bed is comfy
Negative:
Cleaning staff threw my pajama on the ground while making the bed. I wonder, do you typically just throw stuff on the ground and this time just forgot to put it back after the bed was made? In any case that's not very nice. Daily cleaning seemed superficial for that price.
I stayed a week for a conference and did not have a desk. I was told I did not book a room with a desk. I was not aware that there are "desk less rooms" when browsing through images of the hotel. That was my mistake. My tip: There's a large empty space that could easily house a desk and would help many guests.
Summary: Good room - Not all have desks

Positive:
Very modern and stylish hotel in the centre of Dunedin.
Bathroom was lovely with a huge bath that you could easily sink into whilst watching tv.
The shower was also great and the bed super comfy!
Loved the smell of the hotel took me back to the hotels in Miami!
Negative:
The only thing I did not like was when I went to pay cash for the bottle of water I had taken from the minibar only to be told that they do not accept that on the property! I was talking $8.00.
It is legal tender and it is against the law not to accept it!
We do not want to encourage digital currency as your money, freedom and movement can literally be switched off as desired with no notice by the government.
Summary: Very stylish hotel in the middle of Dunedin
