Positive: - friendly staff - good food with a discount for guests - near the beach

Positive: Excellent hotel with a restaurant below and walking distance from the train station and the restaurants. The staff were amazing and I can definitely recommend the river safari that they offer. We had a fridge in the room and a balcony for the sunsets.

Positive: The rumbling of the occasional train, music and location made for an excellent stay with a relaxing atmosphere. Room was very clean, with good WIFI and comfortable beds. The balcony and its associated seating was enjoyed. Most staff spoke English, were extremely helpful and friendly. The service they provided can only be described as Excellent and the same goes for the breakfast. Beach, railway station, ATM and supermarket close by, about a 4 minute walk. Located in a quiet area but close enough to walk to the town, about a 6 minute walk up the hill. The river cruise and onward transport organized by the manager were excellent and went smoothly. Manager and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and this was very much appreciated.

Negative: There was no hot water from the shower, it barely had any heat.

Positive: Although this is officially a 3-star hostel, the experience was truly 5-star in every possible way. As a world traveler who has experienced everything from basic backpacking stays to top luxury resorts, I can confidently say that the hospitality here stands out on a global level. The care was exceptional—deeply personal, heartfelt, and delivered with such consistency that I felt at home from the very first day. Whatever I inquired about was handled far beyond expectations, and after 10 days I genuinely felt like I was leaving a second home. A very special thank-you to Suresh, the incredible property manager, whose professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail elevated every moment of my stay. My gratitude also goes to the outstanding restaurant team—Asala, Chandupa, and Badeepa—who not only fulfilled every request but anticipated my needs with flawless intuition. Their kindness, impeccable service, and ability to personalize every interaction made each meal memorable. And to the kitchen staff: thank you for the extraordinary food, the thoughtful flexibility with my dietary restrictions, and the Michelin-star-level presentation and taste. Every dish felt crafted with passion. Hashila, Sepala, Chameera, and Isuru—you truly spoiled me and set a new standard for what hostel dining can be. Finally, a heartfelt thank-you to the pearl of Esprit, Ms. Sriyani, whose warmth, charm, and constant care brought a special touch to every day. The room itself was spacious and far exceeded what one would expect from a 3-star property. The beautifully handcrafted local furniture, the seaview, and the overall quality created a comfortable and refined atmosphere that made it hard to leave. To the entire team: thank you for an exceptional stay. I cannot wait to return.

Negative: If I had to find anything to improve, perhaps a small rope or rack for drying clothes or beach towels would be useful, and a nightstand next to the bed would add a bit of extra convenience. - I really had to think hard for this

Negative: We booked a room with an ocean view but the ocean could not be seen from the balcony.

Positive: Room was very spacious with a balcony. Few minutes walk to the beach. Great resturant in the ground floor, specializing is seafood. Nice host!

Positive: Staff and location.

Negative: Wifi connection and water pipe was broken. For bath.

Positive: Staff were super helpful. We had issues with flush but they fixed it soon. Room was very big and a nice balcony. It was clean. We stayed at the top floor, so was little hot during day, but there was AC to mitigate the heat. They even arranged a two-wheeler for us on request at reasonable cost. Nearby beach is also a very beautiful beach and we enjoyed the sunset thoroughly. River is also not far from here and you could spend some time there as well.

Negative: The beach is not so accessible as it is mentioned. You have to cross a railway track. And if you have a two-wheeler than you have to go around a long way to reach the beach. Breakfast didn't had any vegetarian option, so they gave only bread with butter. Nit: A bedside table could have been nice.

Positive: Very friendly staff, clean rooms, close to the beach. Food is also excellent!
