General Denver Hotel | Hotel in Wilmington

The General Denver is a charming historic hotel in the lovely town of Wilmington. There is a restaurant and bar on the first floor and our dinner there was delicious. There is some parking in the back or across the street when the church there is not meeting. Because it is a historic building, it is not fully accessible. The elevator requires an operator. There was a step to enter the bathroom in our room. On the third floor, there is a room at the far end with coffee, snacks and ice. (It would be helpful to have this information in the room.) There was a fan in our room which was useful in the afternoon when the AC was not enough to cool the room. Again, because it is a historic hotel, it doesn't have modern luxuries (like a coffee pot, fridge or microwave), but it has a lot of character and charm.

Continental breakfast was not great

The food was great, the room was clean and had character, and the stay was overall a great time! The staff were very kind and accomodating.

So we were warned that the elevator would only be available when an operator was available which ended up be very sketchy. Had to carry our suitcases down from 4 th floor upon leaving as no one around. The bathroom sink was dirty…. Had hair in it, so obviously not cleaned. The bed linens were nearly threadbare! Could see right through them. Only one large towel when we informed there were two of us checking in. No thermostat, so we were cold in the night with no way to fix it ……

This is an old hotel full of charm. The place was clean, cozy and the staff was fantastic. The room we had did not have a fridge but an ice bucket was provided. The food in the restaurant was delicious too. Parking was convenient as was the location.

Very comfortable bed, and clean linens

The room was spacious & very clean. I appreciated the spacious closet & the few antique furnishings that fit with the age of the historic building. Traffic was loud at times, particularly with the motorcycles whose motors were (needlessly) revved while at the stoplight. The room was reasonably priced. The only small issue was the shower faucet handle came off because of a missing set screw. All in all, I will consider staying at the hotel again.

The hotel and staff were exceptional. This felt more like a quaint little in. We will definitely be back.
