Heritage Grange At Thurston | Hotel in Bury St Edmunds

I didn't feel that the breakfast justified the £13 price, so I probably wouldn't choose that again. The restaurant prices were about what I'd expect for a decent pub meal, and the pie was absolutely delicious – easily the highlight of the food for me. One downside was that the bar and seating area, which was the only comfortable place to sit and do some work on my laptop, closed at 9:30 pm. After that, there was nowhere suitable to work or socialise other than outside, the reception area, or returning to the room. The reception area wasn't really practical for working, and the room itself only had a small table, making it less suitable as a workspace. As a result, once the bar closed, you were effectively confined to your room for the rest of the evening. Would I stay there again? Possibly, if there were no better alternatives available, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

The room was clean, but dated. The staff were friendly and very helpful We didn't have breakfast there, but only because we had other arrangements. We did have dinner the three nights we stayed, all of the meals were excellent and well presented. Parking was not a problem, enough space for all guests and staff. The hotel is an old property that oozes character and the garden is quiet and relaxing. The room we had does need some tlc to be honest, but for 3 nights it was acceptable.

Unfortunately it wasn't a good experience, the restaurant was close and the bar. As for the room, it was so small you couldn't board a dog in it, 15 minutes later I booked another room in the Dragonfly Hotel ...so no it wasn't a good experience

Good location, characteristic hotel and restaurant.

We were pleasantly surprised that after seeing a few so-so reviews, that was not our experience at all - we had a great stay! The house and gardens are beautiful and while you'd expect a little wear and tear of a property that age, it was very impressive and looked after. We had one of the lodges at the side of the garden and really liked the little terrace outside our door that looked over the garden. The room couldn't be faulted, a very comfortable bed, lots of space and the bathroom was well equiped and spacious. Everything was clean and well maintained and the rainhead shower was strong and refreshing. We didn't see many staff, but the ones we did see were polite and helpful. There was a lot of choice at breakfast and I had the full vegetarian option - excellent scrambld eggs in particular. Overnight, strings of lights lit the garden and it was lovely to sit on the chairs they provided on our little terrace. We've reason to visit the area regularly now and we will try to stay there again.

Easy parking close to hotel . Room very fresh and clean . Tea making facilities good although not enough milk for more than 2 cups but more available on asking . Breakfast lovely with lots of choice and food very good overall . Very good quality and value . Would stay again .

Paking great.no issues. Its was a very pleasant old building, was tired. Extremely quite, went Bed only.
