Positive: The retreat mostly serves as a wedding venue and is more of a summer spot. It is in a beautiful place near the river with nice green grass areas (even in winter) and close to the Catlins river walk. Very nice mountain view from the cabin. With a little warmer weather it must be absolutely amazing spot. Kitchen and bathroom were fine, have everything what you expect from an outdoor retreat, very good internet connection (handy as there is no reception in the area). Heating in the kitchen was working well so we mostly stayed there in the evening as it was warmer than the cabin. The guest was very welcoming, she came up to show us around and then left. We were the only people on the property in the middle of nowhere what was kind of nice.
Negative: Bed and the cabin have been very cold even with the heater on. It has been close to zero degrees in the night outside and probably no one has stayed there for a while so it would need some time to heat up. The cabin was pretty small, you can barely walk around the bed. I guess at such place, you are expected to stay outside. It wasn't a problem for one night, but would be a bit annoying for a prolonged stay. There are bigger room options there too.
