Ropemaker’s Cottage | House in Ollerton, England

Positive: We really enjoyed our stay at Ropemakers Cottage. The layout of the home worked really well for us, and there were some lovely thoughtful touches, including the welcome hamper. The location was great, and as another reviewer mentioned, there’s a lovely pizza restaurant nearby which was a real bonus. We were also pleasantly surprised that the church bells didn’t disturb our sleep at all. The vast majority of the cottage felt clean and comfortable, and communication throughout our stay was excellent — friendly, helpful and responsive. Overall, it was a lovely place to stay and we really appreciated the care and attention to detail.

Negative: There were a few things we felt could be improved. The cleaners need to look UP a little more carefully, as there was some mould and cobwebs on the bathroom ceiling. The bathroom itself also feels like it could do with some renovation, as it doesn’t quite meet the standard of the rest of the home. For example, as well as being dated, we experienced some drainage issues when taking a shower and there is some rust around the light. We weren’t aware when booking that the upstairs of the property belongs to the neighbouring cottage, so it was a little surprising to be able to hear people above us. The first evening (Friday) was wonderfully peaceful, but Saturday night was considerably noisier, which made settling our two-year-old to bed a little more challenging. One other thing we would have loved was a little more information about the history of the cottage. The black hooks on the bathroom ceiling initially looked like something out of a horror movie! I’m sure they have an interesting connection to the building’s history as an original ropemakers cottage, and it would have been fascinating to know more about them. We’re only mentioning these points because we want to give an honest and balanced review. Importantly, none of them would put us off staying again — we had a wonderful stay and really enjoyed the cottage overall.

Positive: Bigger than the photos, spotless. Modern Decor, very comfy. Amazing Italian a 30 second walk away, the bell chiming outside was relaxing too

Negative: Nothing

Positive: So many goodies left. Very comfy bedrooms. Nice and warm. Super clean. Great location. Relaxing. Loved having washing machine. Little outside courtyard would have been fab for the summer.

Negative: Curtain in hall to block off corridor to front door. Another boot/shoe tray for the front door. Very very slow hob.

Positive: It was really clean , great location . Perfect !

Positive: Absolutely beautiful place to stay looking forward to coming back.

Positive: We loved the cottage! It was clean, spacious and had everything we needed for an amazing stay. Laura was also fantastic and so accommodating when we needed to drop our bags off early to get to an event. The welcome basket was such a lovely touch as well.

Negative: The only thing to note was the property is right next to a church. We sleep with the windows open and the church bells go off every 15 minutes, then ring on the hour. Didn’t affect me but my partner is a light sleeper, so it bothered him and kept him awake.
