The Gables B&B Philadelphia  |  Bed & Breakfast in Spruce Hill

The Gables was a lovely place to stay! The neighborhood is charming and well located within Philly, and the b&b itself is in a charming historic house. The communal breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious, and the room had everything we needed.

Staff was amazing! They go above and beyond to keep the authenticity of the Victorian Mansion turned Bed & Breakfast. The rooms are kept with their Victorian feel, the bed was comfortable, water pressure great, individual ac units in each room. This is not a typical hotel. If you know that going in, everything about it is wonderful!

It was good to be greeted by the owner, Cesar who was as helpful as anyone could be.

We had a wonderful time there. The owner and staff were great and the breakfast was top notch! We would definitely go back and stay there again.

We stayed 3 nights at a cost of $797. Generally both the outside and inside of the house seemed impressive. The hosts were friendly. Unfortunately we were quite disappointed in our stay. There appeared to be no heat on in the entire house. We arrived late, after a warm day. That night and the next 36 hours was quite cold. While an electric room heater was available in our room (a strange way to heat), the hallways and shared bathroom on the second floor were very cold! While not as important, the impressive looking features inside upon closer inspection, there were many places when plaster or paint were peeling. Some looked like water leak damage. Also, the house had no other guests on our floor (one arrived the last night). We made the mistake of accidentally booking a room that shared a bathroom. Quite a shock when you’re not expecting that, but when there’s no heat on cold nights and days, it becomes unacceptable. We didn’t asked to be moved but should have. Paying $266 a night in an empty unheated house should have come with an offer to change. We have stayed in numerous B&Bs over the years and this was the worst yet. Honestly, I feel ashamed of myself for not speaking up after the first night. In the end, $220 per night ballooned to $266 with all of the taxes and fees, which is what really pushed the already bad experience into this honest and accurate review.

Very friendly staff!

Staff over the top. A step back into time into a home with vintage furniture and hospitality. Enjoyed sitting with others over breakfast and marveling at the historic details on the inlaid floors . Not for the ultra modern traveler. A place where there is character and good company.

Our room was very clean & bed was extremely comfortable. Cesar & Jeannette were great hosts and accommodating. Communication was very good and all our questions about Philly were answered via texts or in-person chatting. Hope to return for a longer stay!
