The Jolly Sailor Reviews
Summary: Staff very friendly evening meal 6 out of 10,
breakfast 2 out of 10,
cleanliness 4 out of 10 do not look under the bed or behind the headboard, still not told the wife what was there
in my opinion the room was very expensive, unfortunately will not be going back but the area is marvellous, i’ll be spending a few more pounds and Star is somewhere more stylish next time where are the outdoor barbecue Is not being used as an ashtray for example.

Summary: Friendly welcome. All was fine - it's not a luxury hotel, as you can see from the photos and the price, so don't expect it. It's also an old building. Uneven floors, creeky doors, cracked/ uneven walls and plasterwork etc. Etc.
For about £100, it's fine as a place to sleep. Best part was a huge super king bed (we were upstairs in the garden view room that allows dogs).
A few issues:
1. Bath with hand shower head only, no actual shower - my mistake for not catching this at booking (think all rooms are the same).
2. Paid for the car park and went to check in, when told didn't need to pay for the carpark - would be handy to know this as part of the check-in info.
3. I had to be out early, before the cooked breakfast window. Was told there would be cereals, bread etc left out that I could help myself to. There were packets of cereal and a mini fridge...but the fridge was empty, so I enjoyed cereal with water! Oh and no bread either, so just a toaster and pots of jam to look at! A shame!
Lastly, the food is okay, a bit overpriced for what you get to be honest. Nice selection of local beers.

Summary: Josie made us welcome from the start, sorted out the rooms. Didn't look too astonished regarding the sleeping arrangements of separate rooms for a married couple. Mainly as she had never heard how much I snore.
The fisherman's friends on Saturday night were honestly wonderful, good value food, sensibly priced drinks.
We had a ball.

Summary: Room was lovely & spacious, lots of coffee/tea choices in the room.
My favourite was the deep bath tub & actual bath size towels.
Food was amazing & everyone else eating said the same.
Breakfast was continental served earlier, with a choice of cooked breakfast a bit later.
This was a last minute decision to stay overnight in this area on our trip & what a great decision it was.

Summary: Comfortable, clean room in a quaint old pub. Food was OK, but pricey. The most disappointing thing, given that the pub is owned by Adnams, was the quality of the beer. I tried all three of their staple brews, all of which I know and like, but they were all flat and lifeless. They were also very expensive given that they were only brewed ‘up the road’!!
