Summary: The room would have been perfect however there was no air conditioning and the room was boiling. It was only possible to crack the window open. Staff were amazing really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was brilliant. We had a couple of meals that weren’t as described …. The lamb in lamb ragu was mince not pulled lamb and the noodles in the Chinese chicken were watery. The position of the hotel is ideal and we would return.

Summary: Hotel is ok, but decor is tired and rooms basic and a bit dark. No real view of the river behind a tall chimney and trees. We were told we had been allocated the wrong rooms, but then noone followed up with any more info so was a bit confused. My bed was very hard and my friends was very soft, so no consistency. Parking is a nightmare in the summer and the access road to the hotel a bit scary. Navigating the carpet was worse. There was a power cut in the night which meant that my friends medical breathing machine cut out and she couldn't breathe. All i could hear was something continuously beeping because the power was out which meant i couldnt sleep through it. No back up power, no staff around to deal with anything or reassure residents, no telephone backup to call for an emergency, either landline or mobile. We didnt feel safe. We did see one member of staff who left my friend in a distressed state in the foyer. We left very early in the morning before traffic on the access road made escaping impossible. Food was expensive in both hotel and general location probably because you are trapped there. Nice setting, but not such a great experience.

Summary: A lovely hotel in an idylic location. Car park is £8 for 24 hrs paid through the hotel, breakfast was good and plentiful and the room was large and quiet. There are evening meals served here and also a pub next door with meals and riverside seating. 1 min walk to the ferry that can take you across the river to another pub that serves food all day. Had a great night stay here and I will be back.

Summary: Very clean room. Comfortable bed. Had a forest view but to be fair it's a tall wall full of foliage. Could have looked nicer with a bit of planting / tidying up. Restaurant breakfast & evening meal were both great. Pleasant staff.

Summary: This is the first time we have stayed at this hotel but it certainly will not be the last. The hotel staff were excellent, very helpful, polite and accommodating. Our room was clean, airy and very cosy, a fan and cold water was in the room for our comfort during the hot weather we experienced. Breakfast was wonderful, well cooked, good quality food and plenty of it. The continental breakfast was equally excellent, great choice of everything. On the whole we are more than happy to recommend this premises and look forward to our next visit.

Summary: We had a lovely stay and enjoyed our time at the royal lodge. The room was large and the staff were very polite, welcoming and helpful. The bathroom and room were spotless. We also had dinner at the royal lodge which we both loved with the price definitely warranted. We would definitely stay again when visiting the Wye Valley. The road to the hotel is a little unnerving but that is the only downside we can think of. A lovely stay overall and would definitely recommend

Summary: Atmosphere was happy . Staff very helpful and friendly.
Food was good .
Didn’t like the mobile catering units at the front and in the garden … they looked horrid and we didn’t expect to see them .

Summary: The best thing about this hotel is the location which is fantastic, and the staff were very nice. We stayed in the Oak Suite which is apparently the best room; it benefits from a private terrace with a pair of easy chairs to watch the river and it's occupancy go by, which is lovely. For me it definitely wasn't a four star, but a fair three star hotel. There was a temporary kitchen which also hampered them as well as the view. The room was clean and airy with a (strangely grubby!)Juliet balcony and a big bathroom. However the curtains and carpets were tired and didn't draw properly. The outside space and finishing touches for me needed a rethink. Coffee & tea making had to be done on my knees! A mini fridge would be really good and there's plenty of space for one. Unfortunately the breakfast was not of a good standard, plain and lukewarm on both mornings including the coffee; the bread and other ingredients were not good quality. Underwhelming, so much so we decided not to risk any other meals there. (Go to the Ye Old Ferrie Inn, it's was fantastic) With a cash injection for a bit of tarting up and a better budget for breakfast this place could easily do much better. Fingers crossed!
