The Wood Norton | Hotel in Evesham

I wished there was air conditioning in the room and in the areas leading to the room as it was so hot and there was no breeze so having the windows being didn’t help much. The fan provided didn’t help as there wasn’t any cool air coming through the window, so the fan was simply blowing warm air. Our only other observation was that there were a few areas near to where we stayed which looked a little tired. It just needs a small amount of attention, like a coat of paint on the doors, a few minor repairs on the windows which look a bit shabby…It’s such a beautiful hotel, it’s a shame these little issues haven’t been addressed. I would still stay here again in a heartbeat though!

One lone woman at reception when we arrived around 5.30pm and she did greet my husband. No offer of help with bags etc. We paid extra (£162) for an executive king bedroom so we had air conditioning, but it was ineffectual. The windows couldnt be opened more than an inch. I am elderly and had to climb into the bath for a “rainfall shower” I had forgotten to bring a hair cap. The room was tired with chipped furniture and bathroom needed a makeover - grout gaps between tiles, wonky sloping shelf and only two breakfast tea bags. Dinner was very pleasant- 2 glasses of wine each, and a couple of the dishes very tasty. We had starters and main. Prawn cocktail had a modern twist, nice and spicy, my cod and beans was bland with no real flavours to excite my palate. The restaurant staff very very young and did their job very quickly and efficiently. No warm welcome or pleasant introduction to the various dishes to create an ambiance though. Minor dispute between staff that spilled into the dining area, again not good for atmosphere. Bill £148 Guy on reception on checkout the following morning had nil personality and didn’t enquire about our stay. No polite chat at all. We both felt that the hotel lacked good leadership and management & was perhaps struggling to recruit/retain experienced staff. The lounges and bar areas were pleasant and the bar tender was cheerful and friendly. Very expensive for a below average experience albeit in a handy location. Disappointed 😞

Everything was just spot on in a beautiful setting

Sadly this has become a wedding hotel and that’s the priority. Checked in at 3pm and wedding party in the bar area, which isn’t an issue but only one member of staff working. The outside area then is full of glasses, bottles and cigarette buts which weren’t cleaned for hours. The room was very warm in the mews, grout in the bathroom broken, leaky shower seal all over the floor was dangerous and wedding party noise disturbs sleep. We were offered the spa on check in and we came down to head to the spa but it closes at 4pm, opens at 9 but then family swim at 10. I wouldn’t advertise this as a facility when the hours are so prohibitively limited. Quality of food was good but service was slow, again a lack of staff as they likely were tending to the wedding. Breakfast was slow due to limited staff. The venue is beautiful and staff are nice and try to help but sadly functionality as a hotel for anyone other than wedding guests just isn’t there

Great hotel, friendly staff and amazing food

Lovely clean room. Comfortable bed. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Provided me with extra cup of fresh milk for making drinks in my room. Food was lovely. Only disappointments for me were that I had presumed our room was in the main building with a lift but was in a separate building up a slope and with a flight of stairs. I have poor mobility which was a problem but I had not checked this out beforehand Lesson learned. Also the Spa is not next door but is a short walk away and costs £40 for two to have one swim session. Seems expensive to me , maybe not to others. Still it was a lovely stay

The Hotel its self is stunning, beautiful period building and amazing grounds. What let this hotel down was: The floors in bedrooms were still quite dirty and furnishing/wall fixtures were dusty. Information about our stay was handed on a piece of paper and I would expect it to be in the room. Not a bad thing, but generally passwords, restaurant opening times etc would not be on a handout. We were told the bar closed at 4pm Saturday so our party stayed out, when actually we could of all come back and been able to grab a “nightcap” before midnight ( after a very difficult day attending our friends funeral and wake, we would have preferred to be in a more relaxed atmosphere instead of a busy town) Sunday morning breakfast was chaotic, and felt very rushed. The senior staff appeared to be a female, who not only closed the restaurant door and demanded we go another way, but continued to stomp around , slamming doors, cups and cutlery like her job was an inconvenience. This made me feel very uncomfortable, heightened my anxiety and others in my party felt like we didn’t belong there. This was the downfall of our already emotional visit to Fladbury. Also regarding breakfast, the eggs Royale and Benedict were cold and the full English lacked sustenance, one sausage and slice or bacon for the price of £25 seems a little disappointing.

Front of house and restaurant staff amazing. Very helpful. Great breakfast, plenty of choice.
