Field Guide Lodge | Hotel in Stowe Area

In fairness, we only stayed two nights and didn’t spend a lot of time at the hotel. The Lodge offered a nice array of amenities (hot tub, pool, bar, outdoor pavilion with bands (on Thursday night). Our plans didn’t allow us to enjoy them to a great extent. We ate across the street at The Bench restaurant. It was very good. The Lodge’s free breakfast was minimalistic… bagels, fruit, hard boiled eggs and cereal. It’s an old property. The staff and ownership have done a nice job keeping it viable, but we’ll most likely try another spot next time through.

When I walked in the lobby, there was a musty scent. I asked the person at the front desk if the rooms smelled like that and she responded “they should be ok”. The room was cute but small. There wasn’t anywhere to hang our clothes or a full length mirror and we were there for a wedding. The bed was more like a futon but surprisingly wasn’t uncomfortable. The worst part was the shower which we couldn’t get hot water for and my husband took freezing cold one! The next morning we called and they were going to send someone from maintenance up, but we did not have time to wait before getting ready for the brunch for the wedding and the person I spoke with apologize for the inconvenience and said he would refund us 20% for our troubles. Since I prepaid through hotels.com I called the hotel to see how they would manage that and I was told that after I checked out that they were able to get hot water so they would not be providing a refund. I’m not someone who makes up stories to get money back and I was disappointed to find out that they did not stand by what they said. That said I would not recommend staying there.

Staff was great! Our room was clean but a bit dated. Beds were a bit slopey and soft. Otherwise, we'll located near downtown Stowe.

This hotel is unique with large sitting areas and regular music events. It was a little outdated but I grew to love it and enjoyed the extra space. The fires were nice as well. Breakfast was provided which was really nice.

Overall this property is nicely maintained and staffed with caring personnel.

It was a quaint little place, artistic, homey, inviting. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed playing shuffle board, am unexpected treat. They also had a variety of card games and board games. Several conversation spaces set up. We did have trouble getting hot water in the morning for the shower, but it was eventually figured out. Overall, a great stay!!

The person who checked us in was so friendly! The decor was so unique and wonderful! Cookies awaited is in our room and coffee and in the lobby was great! We loved the location, the hot tub and pool. Breakfast was good but continental. I like to have eggs! Bathrobes were a nice touch!

Zane keeps the Field Guide Lodge spiffy, clean, running smoothly and fun. He gave us excellent restaurant and must-sees recommendations that were spot on, and he took extra time to make sure we were well cared for. Somehow he was able to do all this and start a fire in the fire pit for us.
