Filoxenia Beach | Hotel in Rethymno, Crete

“Good location outside of town. Parking in gravel lot down the street not bad. Short walk and a bit dangerous for unloading luggage in front of hotel in traffic. Owner very nice and very helpful with suggestions of what to do. Other staff helpful in suggesting restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Beach is rocky, but water refreshing. Bed linens could use updating and futon in our room needed to be replaced, but overall a descent place to stay for the price.”

“We loved being right on the beach, and the area wasn’t busy which was lovely. At night, the noise levels were very high as the road is right there and it sounded like our windows were open when they would drive past. However, the staff were friendly and helped us call a taxi in the morning to catch our ferry. ”

“Only a 15 minute walk to the heart of Old Town, this delightful hotel is situated right on a marvelous long sandy beach, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The patroness, Eva, and her staff are courteous and enthusiastic to please. Delicious breakfast and appetizers are served daily.”

“Just back from Filoxenia. A lovely hotel that I am missing already. It has everything one could want. Its right on the beach and all comforts are provided. Our duplex room was great too. Snacks and cocktails are tasty and available. Don't miss the milkshakes! Eva was lovely and helped us plan our trip. Hector the dog kept an eye on things. Only negative and rather odd point was that the cleaning lady made our beds just once in 4 days. Soon sorted out once we mentioned it to Eva.”

“We felt very much at home in the small beach hotel. It started with the contact from home. Eva has responded quickly to our emails and accurately described to us how we can get in our room despite arriving nightly. Also we have taken their offer to make sandwiches for the first hunger in the room, thanking. And they were really very tasty! The room was big enough for both of us, the direct sea view from the balcony was unbeatable. The bathroom was tight for us, but o. k. Shower gel, shampoo, hair dryer were available. The room was cleaned every day. Bed linen and towels changed very often. Breakfast from 8: 00 until 11: 00 was very good. In addition to the daily standard, the freshly prepared homemade dishes such as tarts, Dakos, scrambled eggs, omelets, cakes and sweets changed every day. During the day, Eva offers some dishes and of course drinks of all kinds at fair prices. We have also enjoyed and were satisfied. We stayed always on our "private beach" for swimming, sunbathing and relaxing. We never went to the big beach in Rethymnon. Why also? We could have it any better! The small beach is never crowded. We drive no car. We could still very well take trips, bus tours and walking tours. Eva has done the reservation of three organized bus trips for us. Everything worked without problems. Also public bus transport works well and on time. Walking to the bus station, there are about 15 minutes. We have already booked the next holiday in this hotel.”

“The hotel is small and very welcoming. All the rooms face on the beach, with balconies, and there is a lovely view of the Venetian fortress about 2 km away. The room furnishings are simple but modern and clean. The breakfast was excellent, with a great variety of food, some cooked in house. There is a small pool, and parking for about 4 cars next door. If your car is a large one, however, you will find the entrance a tight fit. There are some very nice restaurants within a short walk.”

“Had a pleasant stay until we tried to get out of the steep driveway and scraped the edge of a truck while trying to avoid being hit by another car. Eva was very helpful and assisted us dealing with the car rental company and insurance representative.”
