The Oak House | Hotel in Axbridge

We received a warm welcome and were looked after well by the staff at this ancient inn in the undiscovered of Axbridge. The room was comfortable and spacious and the included breakfast was great, from a comprehensive breakfast menu.

Was a lovely little hotel. Staff and service was great. Breakfast was lovely. Room was a bit tired. Sheet torn on bed. Windows needed a paint job.

Good location

Very homely and spacious, friendly staff. They asked where I parked (which was the square) and informed me of the free 48hr parking located just down the road. The only negative thing is that all radiators (in the room/bathroom and outside in the corridors and restaurant) continuously made water running sounds, which I personally needed ear plugs to be able to sleep.

Beautiful setting, lovely old property. Very attractive room. They must replace the hall and stair carpet. It is worn and stained which doesn’t give a good first impression.

There was only 3 spaces for parking but you had to move your car by 9am. There however was a free car park a short walk away. A bridge is a smallish town. We booked a standard double room and while it was cute I didn’t like the idea of facing the road and opposite building and people walking see us in the room. I believe the windows should be glazed or one way looking. While room was right on street it wasn’t too noisy even with the window slightly open. The room was just tight not too small and bathroom was smallish but cute. Amenities included coffee/tea and bottled water a bonus, bathroom amenities were great. They could be a bit more generous with the toilet paper. The room had a small fan and once it got going it cooled the room. Bed was a comfy sleep. One downside was that there was a massive obvious stain on one of the chairs that was off putting. Looked at having dinner but there was a varied reviews we didn’t chance it however breakfast was awesome. Overall pretty good place. Would come again.

Overall, we very much enjoyed staying at the Oakhouse Hotel. The staff were all helpful and charming; the room (rather an exaggeration to call it a 'suite') was clean and comfortable; and the food was good. Only 2, very minor, issues detracted from what would otherwise have been an excellent experience: the food service, particularly at dinner, was rather slow (although the quality of the food was excellent); and I was left hanging around, being ignored by the 1 member of staff who saw me, for several minutes when I wanted to check out. There was also a bit of an administrative faff at checkout, but this was quickly resolved. Overall, a very good place to stay.

Hotel was in a lovely little village and the oak house overall was lovely with very comfy beds. The room was clean (aside from discarded bottle under the bed and stains on decorative cushions). The rooms were nice but could do with some TLC and updating. There was damp on the ceiling, one set of curtains had mildew on them and the radiator in the bathroom was partially hanging off the wall. Could do with some updating overall. Breakfast was lovely and was a good location to cheddar gorge.

Liked: Excellent hotel with good atmosphere, food & friendly staff (but few minor issues which have been brought to their notice) Disliked: No on-site parking,

Easy check in. Room clean and well presented. Nice touches with bathrobes and home made biscuits. Great breakfast and enjoyed the tapas in the bar. Only one night but would stay again.
