The Shore | Hotel in Kirkwall

Shore hotel is an annexe to the Kirkwall hotel where you have breakfast. The food there was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful , I complained about everything in my room and was told housekeeping would be told . I also asked why there were no gluten free sausages at breakfast. I had informed them in February about my husband’s intolerances . The man I spoke to went out and bought some for the next day. He couldn’t alter the room rate but comped us with dinner on one night. Which they tried to charge us for on leaving. Positives Bedding and towels were clean. Room layout was good for a family. Negatives Entrance stairs carpet is ripped , passageway carpet very badly stained. Bathroom radiator is SCALDING, shower is too hot for most people on lowest level . Hot water in tap takes 6 minutes to come through. Shower is filthy round the bottom of the door , inside and out, months of mould and dirt . Small bedroom blinds were thick with dust . Carpet ripped in passageway to bathroom. Dressing table covered in ring marks, chair at dressing table dirty and badly stained. Blind broken on velux window no pole to open windows . All reported and sent photographs , nothing done . Housekeeping in the Shore needs upgraded. We only saw 2 young girls who need shown how to clean showers. We paid over £1300 for 4 nights not worth it at all . If this was 4 in a bed we would have paid nothing.

The room was clean and comfortable. It needs to be made clearer in hotel advance information what the situation is. I was not aware until I arrived that the hotel I was staying in was in fact an annexe of the hotel nearby. That was a bit of a surprise. Being able to leave my luggage before and after check-in/check-out was appreciated when transport to and from the Ireland was early or overnight. Food and drink was of a high quality but rather expensive.

The ground floor is being renovated, so reception is at The Kirkwall Hotel next door. So there is investment here. That being said, hopefully the rooms and floors are next. The existing building is shabby, though my small, single room was functional at best. 5'x10', plus a small bathroom that could do with new sink fixtures. The tight shower had hot water and good water pressure. Staff next door were very helpful and welcoming. Park nerely anywhere "there's no traffic warden".

Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Great Location. What more could you want.

The whole stay was wonderful, but we were particularly grateful that you let us use the room easily so my travel companion could sleep after her Nightshift. Thank you!

Clean and Comfortable

The biggest problem is the noise. No sound proofing and you can hear ever step, every door slam, doors and windows that rattle pounding all night with the slightest breeze. The hotel is run down and in Serio’s need of upgrades. First room, blinds had big gaps, street lights shown right into the room. It was dirty, and the fitted sheet was too small for the bed and rolled up at each corner.
