In Crickhowell, in the Brecon Beacons, The Bear dates back to 1432. Expect a welcoming atmosphere, old world charm and good food. Awarded Inn of the Year 2010 by the Good Pub Guide. The Bear has original features, such as a cobbled forecourt, with an old archway leading to an inner courtyard. Rooms also have an historic feel, but with modern facilities like free Wi-Fi and satellite TV. The restaurant menu often changes to suit the local ingredients available. The award-winning food is served in cozy surroundings, with open log fires or fine fresh spring flowers. The restaurant is popular, so reservations are recommended. Positive: Staff were professional, very friendly and polite. Location was great. Food, restaurant its staff were great. Breakfast was plentiful. Room was comfortable.
Negative: On arrival the toilet seat was not clean so had to sanitise this it before use. The Yale door latch was missing and there was no security chain that meant the courtyard room (therefore easily accessible by the public) could not be properly secured when occupied making it a concern.
Summary: Despite a security concern, with such great staff and food a return is likely.
