“We had a wonderful experience with Hestheimar. Even though our original trip had to be cancelled due to our flight cancellation, the staff were incredibly kind, understanding, and accommodating throughout the whole process. Their communication was prompt, and they were so considerate in helping us with our rebooking. It really showed how much they care about their guests. We truly appreciate their kindness and look forward to staying here on our rescheduled trip. Thank you again for your excellent customer service!”

“Rooms are next to common area. Other guests were very loud well past midnight. No tvs in rooms to try and cover up noise. Had to contact hotel staff after midnight to ask them to come and intervene with rude and noisy guests. Rooms are not sound proof. Very difficult to sleep. Also, booking site noted breakfast to be free, but was charged for breakfast. Beds were comfortable and hotel surroundings were peaceful but due to other factors did not leave happy with stay.”

“We totally enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, food delicious and room very comfortable. It was a treat to be able to watch Icelandic horses in the fields from the windows of our room.”

“Great location for exploring the southern coast, and the property is clean with beautiful views. Our cabin was sandwiched between the communal parking lot out front and an active construction site out back, complete with exposed septic infrastructure and loose wiring. The construction lights also impacted stargazing and northern lights viewing. The advertised hot tub turned out to be communal, attached to the reception building, and far enough from the cabins that you need to drive there. WiFi was weak in the cabin.
The accommodation felt tired and cramped for a family of five. Mattresses were uncomfortable, and supplies were stingy: two toilet paper rolls for five people over four nights, and no shampoo or conditioner, just body wash. Every other place we stayed in Iceland covered the basics. Extra-fee signage throughout added to a transactional feel.
The breakfast is marketed as a highlight (and priced at around $100 for five). Ours wasn’t. Tomatoes and cucumbers were past their best, bacon was undercooked and fatty, fruit was unripe, and the muffins tasted off enough that the kids each tried one and stopped. We’d had a nearly identical spread at Efstidalur that was genuinely our favorite breakfast in Iceland. Go there instead.
We left after one night of a four-night stay. The front desk comped the breakfast, which was kind. A partial refund for unused nights would have gone further, but wasn’t offered.”

“This place was not what I expected reading about it. Check in was fine but the person at the reception insisted we leave our shoes in the front. They do not provide courtesy slippers and so we had to walk in our socks to the room. They have a motley basket of slippers, which I’m not wearing! God knows whose feet were in them before me. Half were grungy travel slippers. The room had no shampoo or conditioner. Hot water took awhile to come. As we were the only people, the staff had breakfast setup in a small frig in the dining room. We could have it anytime between 7-10 am! This place had more dos and don’t s than amenities.
At least the bed was clean and we could sleep for the night. ”
